Helpful Guide For Diamond Shoppers

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. I truly believe that all women must have 1 diamond item at least once in their life time. But how do you look for good diamond , it is a very tricky question. Especially since our other half (husband or boyfriend) will never understand the glittering effect coming from the diamond can really melt our hearts.

Allow me to share with you my experience of working with The Carat Club for more than 7 yrs that How to choose a perfect diamond for ourselves!

1st : Your budget

We always heard about XX celebrity get XX carats(fill in the number yourself :P ) diamond. To be honest, that is extravagant when you compare to a  normal salary working woman in Malaysia nowadays. Don’t be shy about it if you can’t spent RM10,000- RM30,000 to get a 1 carat diamond, and with a limited budget, you can also get a good deal!

2nd : Get a reputable & trustworthy Jeweller

We often hear that diamonds’ value degrade overtime. But that is not completely true. The gem itself does not lose value. However, the setting might. If it is white gold, it has probably appreciated with time.  The condition and intricacy of design would also affect the price. You might consider upgrading the stone rather than selling if it is a matter of design you don’t like. My conclusion is, Get a Diamond (Solitaires) upgrading is to get it certified.

3rd: Understand What is 4C

Cut - The traditional 4 C's ideology is simply a take-off point for the love diamond. By way of review, here in essence is what the basics are all about.

A diamond's brilliance depends largely on how much light is reflected back to the eye.  This is determined by the cut. Each facet of the diamond must be cut to precision - i.e. ideal proportions, perfect symmetry and perfect polish, hence it is the most important of the 4 C's.

Carat - Diamonds are priced according to weight categories. A 5-ct diamond costs 15 times more than a 1-ct; a 1-ct costs 4 times more than a half-carat. Weight however does not equate to diameter, reinforcing the importance of cut.

Colour - Diamond colour grades range from colourless (grade 'D' being the rarest and most valuable) to light yellow (grade 'Z'). In colour grading, the diamond is examined under special white light and through the bottom of the stone in order to isolate the brilliance from the actual body colour.

The brilliance of a well-cut diamond can mask the visibility of a diamond's body colour, particularly in larger stones where colour becomes increasingly visible.

Clarity - The clarity grade of a diamond refers to the size, location and the number of tiny marks ("inclusions") present in most diamonds. These diamond's "finger prints" (identifying characteristics) make each stone unique.

Clarity grading is done under 10X magnification. Most inclusions are not visible to the naked eye and do not affect the return of light from the diamond. (an exception only happens in the 'I' or imperfect category.)
